U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) with the Newark Field Office in New Jersey recently conducted an immigration enforcement operation from June 5 to 9, which resulted in the arrest of 113 criminal targets throughout its jurisdiction.
Each individual was targeted for criminal offenses; 93 percent were convicted criminals while 83 percent had prior felony convictions.
Individuals arrested ranged in age from 18 to 74 years old. Some convictions included offenses such as sexual assault on a child, theft of government property, narcotics possession, narcotics distribution, robbery, driving under the influence, fraud, domestic violence, aggravated assault, larceny, burglary, and illegal reentry into the United States.
“The continued results of our fugitive operations officers and their law enforcement partners underscore ICE’s ongoing and steady commitment to public safety,” IC Field Office Director of ERO Newark John Tsoukaris said. “As part of this operation, we continue focus on the arrest of individuals who are criminal and are a threat to public safety and national security.”
Arrested individuals hailed from a variety of countries including Bangladesh, Central African Republic, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, and Uruguay.
ICE agents conducted more than 240,000 removals thought FY2016. Approximately 90 percent of those individuals had been previously convicted of criminal offenses.
