AT&T selects Motorola Solutions to deliver mobile apps, software for new nationwide public safety broadband network

AT&T recently selected Motorola Solutions to provide a variety of mobile applications, software and services as part of its rollout of the first nationwide, interoperable public safety broadband network for first responders.

AT&T was chosen as the developer of the network by the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) on March 30. The contract, valued at approximately $46.5 billion, represents a significant investment in communications systems intended for first responder day-to-day operations, disaster response and recovery, and securing large events.

Motorola will deliver a device specifically designed for public safety uses, the LEX F10, and a suite of messaging and mapping applications. Each solution is designed to work seamlessly between the FirstNet network, AT&T’s LTE network, and land mobile radio networks (LMR).

“Public safety is looking for advanced, interoperable communications and collaboration capabilities,” Chris Samber, senior vice president of FirstNet, AT&T Global Public Sector, said. “Working with Motorola Solutions and other key team members, we will help deliver broadband-enabled devices and apps that will be certified for use by public safety seeking FirstNet services.”

Bruce Brda, executive vice president of Products and Services for Motorola Solutions, said LMR and LTE will continue to coexist, and helping first responders bridge those technologies with interoperable solutions will be an important growth driver for the company.
