The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently introduced new state-of-the-art screening technology equipment at Niagara Falls International Airport (IAG).
The Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) scans for potential threats and highlights the location of potential threats in yellow on a generic “cookie cutter” image of a person. The machine is designed to scan passengers for both metallic and nonmetallic threats including weapons and explosives hidden under clothing. If no threats are found, the screen flashes green.
The screen displays the same generic outline of a person regardless of their height, weight and gender in order to preserve their privacy.
The energy emitted by the machine’s millimeter wave technology is 1,000 times lower than international safety limits and guidelines.
