TSA screens record number of passengers

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reached a new record for passengers and crew screened in a month in July, surpassing the previous record set in June.

TSA officers screened 72,117,046 passengers and crew at airports in July, including approximately 2 million at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

In June, TSA set a record of 69,985,052 passengers and crews screened. Three of the 10 busiest months, May, June and July, on record occurred so far in 2017.

In June and July, TSA officers screen an average of 2.33 million passengers and crew daily. 99.9 percent of passengers waited for less than 30 minutes in standard screening lanes. 99.6 percent of TSA pre-check passengers waited less than five minutes to go through checkpoints.

During the two months, passenger volume exceeded 2 million on 58 days and surpassed 2.4 million on 25 days.

July Fourth saw the lowest passenger volume, 1.88 million. The busiest day occurred on June 30 when TAS screened 2.65 million passengers.
