Customs and Border Protection awards four contracts for border wall prototypes

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently announced that it awarded four contracts for concrete prototypes of a southern border wall, which will help deter illegal crossings where they are constructed and allow CBP to evaluate new designs.

Caddell Construction Co., (DE), LLC based in Montgomery, Alabama; Fisher Sand & Gravel Co., DBA Fisher Industries based in Tempe, Arizona; Texas Sterling Construction Co. based in Houston, Texas; and W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company based in Philadelphia, Mississippi received the contracts.

CBP will use the prototypes to inform future designs, which will likely continue to evolve.

The awards come as a response to an executive order from President Trump, directing the Department of Homeland Security Secretary to take steps to plan, design and build a physical wall on the southern border.

CBP issued two requests for proposal (RFP) in March, one for conceptual concrete wall designs and the other for non-concrete designs. These awards are for the concrete designs. CBP has said it will make a decision on the non-concrete awards this week.

CBP expects the prototypes to be constructed in the fall.
