After serving as the acting director of the Army’s Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) since May, Eric Moore was named the permanent director of ECBC by Maj. Gen. Cedric Williams effective Oct. 29.
ECBC is tasked with research and development efforts related to non-medical components of the nation’s chemical-biological defense capabilities. Currently, developing better ways to remotely detect chemical and biological agents before warfighters and first responders encounter them is among ECBC’s leading priorities.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be selected to lead our world-class team of scientific, engineering and support professionals at ECBC,” Moore said. “Together, we’ll continue to ensure that U.S. and allied warfighters have the right chemical and biological defense solutions to be operationally ready to fight and win in any environment.”
Moore graduated from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, with a bachelor’s degree in biology and earned a doctorate in neurophysiology from Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
After accepting a commission as second lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps, Moore supported the Department of Defense Chemical and Biological Defense Program in various roles from 2007 to 2016.
Prior to his appointment as the acting director of ECBC in May, Moore had served as the director of research and technology at ECBC since August 2016.
