Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry recently confiscated over 69 pounds of alleged heroin valued at over $1.5 million.
“This weekend’s seizure is a vast illustration of the dedication and commitment put forth by our frontline officers in securing our nation’s borders,” Port Director at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry Carlos Rodriguez said. “Officer experience coupled with technology played a significant role in keeping these dangerous drugs from reaching the streets of our community.”
On Sunday morning, CBP officers at the Progreso International Bridge referred a 2014 Chevy Cruz driven by a 41-year-old Mexican national accompanied by a 42-year-old female, a United States citizen from Weslaco, Texas, for a secondary inspection.
During the secondary inspection, officers found 46 packages of alleged heroin within the vehicle’s interior, which weighed a total of 69.71 pounds and had an estimated street value of $1,581,000.
CBP OFO seized the narcotics and the vehicle. The man and woman were arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
