In two law enforcement actions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized more than $1.04 million in marijuana and crystal methamphetamine.
The first seizure occurred Jan. 9 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge between Mexico and Laredo, Texas. A non-intrusive imaging system, as well as canine and physical inspection of a 2016 Volvo commercial bus, found three packages containing 28 pounds of alleged crystal methamphetamine, which have a combined street value of $567,023.
The second seizure occurred the same day at the World Trade Bridge also between Mexico and Laredo. A non-intrusive imaging system, canine and physical inspection of a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of fresh jalapenos found 1,528 packages containing a total of 2,382 pounds of alleged marijuana among the peppers. The drugs have a street value of $476,458.
An additional seizure at the bridge earlier in the month was of 5,164 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $1.03 million.
“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers and a great example of the layered enforcement implemented by CBP,” Albert Flores Port Director of the Laredo Port of Entry, said. “I congratulate the officers in enforcing the CBP mission and protecting the public from illegal narcotics.”
The cases have been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
