U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Swanton Sector apprehended 20 individuals in four incidents for entering the country illegally over the past holiday weekend in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
“The men and women of the United States Border Patrol work diligently to protect the border and keep our community safe,” Acting Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia said. “Our border security efforts and enforcement of our nation’s laws doesn’t stop on holidays, and this past Easter weekend resulted in the apprehension of several individuals attempting to enter the country illegally.”
In the early morning on March 30, Champlain Border Patrol Station agents encountered nine individuals who had illegally crossed into the United States from Canada near the West Service Road in Champlain, New York. All of the individuals are citizens of Haiti and had no immigration documents that would permit them to legally enter or remain in the United States. Agents transported all nine individuals to the Champlain Station for processing.
On March 31, Newport Border Patrol Station agents apprehended eight individuals after they illegally crossed into the United States from Canada near the North Derby Road in Newport, Vermont.Seven of the individuals are citizens of Romania and one is a citizen of Germany. None of them have immigration documents that would allow them to legally enter or remain in the United States. Agents transported all eight individuals to the Newport Station for processing.
On the morning on April 1, agents from the Richford Border Patrol Station located a citizen of Guatemala who had illegally crossed into the United States from Canada near Franklin, Vermont and attempted to abscond into the United States on a bicycle. Agents transported him to the Richford Station for processing.
Later that day, agents from the Beecher Falls Border Patrol Station apprehended two more citizens of Guatemala near Pittsburg, New Hampshire. The two individuals did not have immigration documents that would allow them to enter or remain in the United States.
All of the apprehended individuals were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for removal proceedings.
