The U.S. Department of Treasury would be authorized to create a “Border Wall Trust Fund” to accept public donations for the planning, design, construction or maintenance of a southern border wall under legislation introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday.

Introduced by U.S. Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), the Border Wall Trust Fund Act also stipulates that the secretary of homeland security should incorporate a commemorative display into the border that recognizes “the individuals who contributed to the Border Wall Trust Fund.”

“While Democrats block commonsense border security and put illegal immigrants before our families, we are going to put America first,’ Black said. “Real immigration reform cannot be achieved without a secure border — President Trump has been clear about this since day one.”

The Border Wall Trust Fund Act states that donations could be made to the trust fund via a website. Contributions would then be appropriated to the secretary of homeland security to plan, design, construct or maintain the international border wall under the bill.

“The most important job of the federal government is the safety and security of the American people, and if citizens in our country wish to contribute to this effort, they absolutely should be given the opportunity,” Black said. “Americans know that President Trump is committed to protecting our nation for future generations, and we are ready to stand with him to build the wall.”
