The Laredo Sector Border Patrol Foreign Operations Branch (FOB), working with the Government of Mexico (GoM), prevented a large shipment of narcotics from entering the United States last week.
Border Patrol agents with the Foreign Operations Branch, along with officials from the Mexican government, identified a tractor-trailer truck attempting to cross through a Laredo, Texas Port of Entry with narcotics. The Mexican officials, which had been monitoring the trailer, located and confiscated the trailer and drugs.
The Mexican military seized a total of 423 bundles of narcotics. The majority was made up of 10,083.944 pounds of marijuana, which holds a street value of $8 million.
“This seizure clearly demonstrates the exceptional level of binational cooperation that the Border Patrol has with the Government of Mexico. We fully intend to continue this level of cooperation between both governments to locate and prevent the smuggling of illicit contraband,” Jason Owens, Laredo Sector chief patrol agent, said.
The Laredo Sector Foreign Operations Branch (FOB) was established in October 2016 to streamline, structure, and build upon the successes of the International Liaison Unit. The US Border Patrol Laredo Sector urges people to report suspicious activity such as drug or illegal alien smuggling.
