Rockwell Collins, Inc. recently showcased “FasTAK,” the company’s new tactical combat targeting and communications system, at the Canadian Association of Defense and Security Industries’ trade show.
Integrating hardware like laser range finders, tactical computers, video downlink receivers and FasTAK digital targeting software, FasTAK runs on Microsoft Windows and Android platforms. The system can also integrate communication data, existing lasers, radios and GPS devices via applications on smartphones and tablets.
“FasTAK simplifies a complex set of tasks for users, helping them carry out missions more efficiently while remaining agile,” said Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of communication, navigation and electronic warfare solutions at Rockwell Collins. “From units on the move to command and control, the system provides reliable, secure connectivity across the battlefield.”
FasTAK wearable equipment weighs less than previous solutions, with the Microsoft system weighing less than 6 pounds and the Android system weighing less than three pounds. Its data link processing software runs on basic laptop hardware that can be transported in a lightweight case. It can be used to manage data links, radio frequencies and forward data.
