U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) recently completed a multiday, congressional delegation visit to the California-Mexico border. During the trip, the Congress members visited a U.S. Naval Air Station and tunnel site, a U.S. Border Patrol station, the San Ysidro Port of Entry, and the Otay Mesa Detention Center.
The Congress members also received multiple briefings from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on inspection procedures, border technology, and canine utilization, and discussed potential threats to the Border Infrastructure System.
“It’s critical members of Congress visit the border and see the problems and restrictions that law enforcement is facing due to our outdated immigration laws.” Denham said. “Congress must take action to secure our border, keep families together, and pass a permanent solution for America’s Dreamers – and we have to act now.”
Denham is a proponent of improved border security and creating a permanent solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
In May Denham, along with U.S. Reps. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) and Will Hurd (R-TX), introduced a petition to enforce the “queen of the hill” rule, meaning the bill with the most votes wins.
The other members of the delegation included Reps. Rodney Davis (R-IL) and David Valadao (R-CA).
