U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently announced it would be expanding and relocating its Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Global Entry Enrollment Center.
The center’s improvements will double the number of applicants processed by allowing CBP officers to conduct up to 10 interviews simultaneously per hour.
LAX’s enrollment center has processed 352,187 applicants since it opened in October 2008.
CBP has a program called Global Entry that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival into the United States. Applicants must set up an online account, pay a $100 fee, pass an in-person interview and a background check before enrollment.
Membership into the program lasts five years, and the program has more than 5 million members.
“The new Enrollment Center reflects CBP’s unwavering commitment in improving the customer service experience as Global Entry continues to attract thousands of new applicants,” Carlos C. Martel, CBP director of field operations in Los Angeles, said. “The new location will significantly reduce appointment wait times for conditionally approved applicants in the Greater Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.”
Global Entry Enrollment Centers are located in more than 95 areas in the United States and Canada, and Global Entry is available at 60 U.S. airports and 15 preclearance locations.
