Laredo director of field operations wins DHS Secretary’s Award

David P. Higgerson, director of field operations at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Laredo Field Office recently was awarded the Secretary’s Meritorious Service Silver Medal 2018 from the Department of Homeland Security.

The award honors exceptional individual service or leadership, based on diligence, achievements, resourcefulness, and business improvements during the individual’s time with the department.

Higgerson was recognized for his service with distinction as well as his responsibility for enforcement activities at the Machinery Center of Excellence and eight international Ports of Entry. The award also honors Higgerson’s role in the Joint Task Force-West.

The task force’s goal is to stop transnational criminal organizations from operating in Southern Texas.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized at the DHS Secretary’s Awards Ceremony but the work being recognized is truly a reflection of the vision of the management team at Laredo Field Office and the implementation of that vision by the CBP officers, agriculture specialists and frontline employees working hard every day at the ports of entry throughout Laredo Field Office,” Higgerson said.

The award was presented at a ceremony held at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. Higgerson was one of 17 individuals or groups selected to receive the Secretary’s Meritorious Service Silver Medal.
