Andrew Scharnweber, a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Border Patrol, was selected in late November as Deputy Chief Patrol Agent for the agency’s Buffalo sector.
That new authority makes him one of the top figures governing the security of New York’s and Pennsylvania’s ports of entry. It also represents a major location shift for Scharnweber, who previously served as the associate chief of the Law Enforcement Operations Directorate at U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Scharnweber’s previously served in Erie, Penn., as Patrol Agent in Charge of the region’s station for five years beginning in 2007. A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York and holder of a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, Scharnweber has been working with the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) since 1996.
In his time with the agency, Scharnweber has also worked in Tucson, Ariz., and Oswego, N.Y. Beyond his past fieldwork, he has also served as the CBP’s representative at the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Legislative Affairs.
