Air Force officials said cyber domain restructuring efforts will aid in achieving the overarching goal of streamlining oversight, policy, and guidance.

The branch is merging its headquarters staffs to integrate intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance with cyber effects operations. The initiative will enable coordinated Title 10 and Title 50 actions across the range of military operations.

The new structure establishes a single deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and cyber effects operations. The Senate confirmed the secretary of the Air Force’s nomination of Lt. Gen. VeraLinn Jamieson as the deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and cyber effects operations on March 1.

The duties of the chief information officer have been assigned to Undersecretary of the Air Force Matthew Donovan by the secretary of the Air Force. The role of the CIO will retain responsibility for the oversight and management of the Air Force’s network infrastructure, governance, standards, interoperability, and cybersecurity.

Officials maintain the integration of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, warfighter communications and cyber effects operations functions would enhance the safeguarding of national security interests while protecting and bolstering the ability of the Air Force to defend against emerging threats.

Consolidating cyber effects operations functions, warfighter communications and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance serves to break down barriers as well as enable greater coordination across the range of military operations.
