The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Air Force recently collaborated to address the national aircrew shortage.
The partners will work to reduce barriers for entering the pilot career field, increase the number of pilots, leverage technology to improve pilot training to meet the demands of the aviation industry, and promote aviation nationwide.
If successful, the efforts will ensure the continued and long-range health and safety of the aviation industry.
“The FAA is actively working to ensure we have the aviation workforce needed today and in the future,” Dan Elwell acting FAA administrator said. “We also are working with our industry and government partners, like the Air Force, to ensure that we address any barriers to people realizing their dreams of becoming a pilot or aircraft mechanic.”
The FAA and Air Force also plan to find solutions for and set goals for three aviation workforce issues: discovering what can be done to attract new people to aviation professions, finding ways to maximize training efficiency and promoting partnerships between the industry, academia, the government and the Department of Defense.
The collaborative effort will attempt to find ways to get more people to fly, Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson said.
