Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have reissued the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin, which maintains a focus on domestic terror threats.
DHS began using the report in 2015 as a means of highlight continuing terror threats in America. Officials noted that the nation is engaged in a generational fight against terrorists who seek to attack the American and an informed, vigilant, and engaged public remains one of the greatest assets to identify potential terrorists and prevent attacks.
The DHS maintains terrorist groups continue to inspire, enable, and direct followers to spread chaos using homemade weapons striking soft targets and crowded places. The groups remain focused on conducting more sophisticated attacks using conventional weapons as well as new technologies and tactics.
DHS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guide state, local, tribal and territorial partners related to the current threat environment while supporting the private sector to provide risk assessments and coordinate security measures with business owners and operators.
DHS works with the FBI and other intelligence partners to detect and disrupt terror suspects, enhance screening and vetting measures to identify suspicious travelers and cargo, combat violent radicalization and terrorist recruitment in our communities, monitor emerging threats, and engage with foreign partners.
The current Bulletin represents its eighth iteration since its first release four years ago.
