National security experts met last week for a three-day summit in New Orleans hosted by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Chemical Sector Security Council to discuss chemical security.

It was the 12th iteration of the Chemical Sector Security Summit, which is the signature event for chemical security and networking in the field. Chemicals and chemical infrastructure are the focus, as well as the promotion of cooperation between private and public interests. CISA, a part of the Department of Homeland Security, uses the event as one part mingling, one part educational forum.

“Chemical security is critical to our economy, our way of life, and our national security,” CISA Director Christopher Krebs said. “Events like the Chemical Sector Security Summit are an important way to exchange industry knowledge and best practices, and helps us build a collective defense against the threats that face us today.”

Topics covered everything from regulatory updates to the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, to the increasing prevalence of drones, how to undertake risk management in the cybersecurity supply chain and more. Attendees were able to learn from various sessions, as well as engage one another.
