U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) was awarded Wednesday the 2019 Congressional Biosecurity Champion Award from the Alliance for Biosecurity.
The annual award recognizes Congressional members that work to improve the country’s capabilities to prevent and combat chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and pandemic biosecurity threats.
“We applaud your dedication and commitment to the nation’s efforts to prepare, prevent, and protect against public health threats,” said Chris Frech, co-chair of the Alliance for Biosecurity and senior vice president of Global Government Affairs for Emergent BioSolutions, in a letter to Rep. Herrera Beutler. “Your efforts speak loudly of your concern for the peace of mind and safety of our people.”
The Alliance specifically commended Herrera Beutler’s partnership in advancing public safety and well-being against biosecurity threats against the United States.
“For more than a decade, the Alliance for Biosecurity has proven vital to ensuring that U.S. health security remains strong,” added Brent MacGregor, co-chair of the Alliance for Biosecurity and senior vice president of Global Commercial Operations for Seqirus. “Your support enables our unified message to be heard, understood and acted upon, and we thank you for your partnership.”
The Alliance for Biosecurity is the leading industry voice on biosecurity issues. It advocates for public policies and funding to support the rapid development, production, stockpiling, and distribution of critically needed medical countermeasures.
