U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Office of Trade and the Department of Commerce’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance have partnered to bolster antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD) efficacy.
“Our partnership with Commerce is critically important given our shared responsibility to administer and enforce the AD/CVD laws of the United States, ultimately protecting the U.S. economy,” Brenda Smith, executive assistant commissioner, CBP Office of Trade, said. “We are fortifying American businesses by promoting fair trade, and penalizing those importers who try to evade U.S. Trade Law. This new module will make it easier for Commerce and CBP to monitor and uphold our trade laws.”
The joint endeavor streamlines the AD/CVD case messages and case reference data functions, enabling more user-friendly navigation for the trade community. Also, the deployment of the enhanced AD/CVD module provides a more secure and transparent system, officials said.
“Enforcing our nation’s antidumping and countervailing duty laws continues to be a top priority of the Trump Administration and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside our CBP colleagues to create this new module,” Christian Marsh, deputy assistant secretary for Enforcement and Compliance within Commerce’s International Trade Administration, said. “This latest development will not only serve the trade community but will also provide Commerce and CBP an effective tool with which to enforce U.S. trade remedy laws.”
