Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) is calling upon the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of State to deliver a plan to Congress outlining efforts to eliminate ISIS permanently.
Ernst recently issued a resolution in which the agencies would submit the plan of action within 30 days as a means of addressing the threat ISIS poses regionally and globally, the plan to prevent an ISIS resurgence, contain ISIS expansion, and describe how progress against ISIS since 2014 will be protected.
“In our fast-moving and quickly changing world, it is easy for some to forget the terrible threat ISIS once posed while they were at their most powerful, but it would be wrong to think that we can now allow ourselves to take our foot off our enemy’s throat,” Ernst said regarding her resolution. “We cannot afford to take our eyes off the vital task of ensuring the lasting and irreversible defeat of ISIS. We must consolidate our gains to rid the world of this terrible organization and insist on a sound strategy to ensure our success to that end.”
Ernst said ISIS cells are seeking to take advantage of the circumstances in northern Syria to reconstitute and pose a direct threat to Americans.
