Pennsylvania’s Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program will provide $5 million in funding to nonprofit organizations for security enhancement projects.

Applicants must be a nonprofit organization that owns or operates a facility that is seeking to protect the safety and security of the facility’s users to be eligible. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that primarily serve individuals, groups, or institutions included in a single bias hate crime incidents category as identified by the FBI.

Projects include upgrading existing structures that enhance safety and security, purchasing safety and security equipment and technology, safety and security planning and training, and assessing vulnerabilities and threat risks.

Grants will be awarded between $5,000 and $150,000.

“These grants expand the school safety and security grants introduced last year,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “And will help our myriad nonprofits address security needs heightened by the heinous attack at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018 and the safety concerns that still exist for religious, social, and other nonprofit organizations across the commonwealth.”

The application period opened last week and runs through Feb. 14. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency administers the program as part of Act 83 of 2019.
