CEPI, IABS to host meeting on vaccine platform technology licensure

In March, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI) and the International Alliance for Biological Standardization (IABS) will co-host a Brussels-based meeting on the licensing of vaccine platform technologies, to consider the potential benefits of the new registration procedure.

This, the partners believe, could cut down the wait times and costs involved in testing vaccines. By speeding up these platform technologies, the production of candidate vaccines could also be potentially sped up. These could be particularly useful in times of outbreak, as a means of accelerating response and allowing efficient licensing of such systems.

The symposium, held between March 16-17, is organized by a Scientific Committee of experts. It will assemble researchers and regulatory agencies under one roof to discuss the concept of vaccine technology platforms, the animal licensing and regulatory situation, success and failure with human influenza, emergency preparedness, Ebola vaccines, new technologies, and regulatory issues among them.

At the same time, CEPI has an ongoing call of proposals until October 2020, through which it is offering funding to companies and academic groups with solid ideas for novel platforms to develop vaccines and immunoprophylactics.
