Reps. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Mike Doyle (D-PA) are espousing the benefits of the House advancing the Secure 5G and Beyond Act of 2020.

“It is long past time that the Trump Administration prepare our networks for the 5G future – this bill will force the Administration to do exactly that and ensure federal agencies work together on a comprehensive plan to secure 5G,” the legislators noted via a joint statement. “This bill is the latest in a series passed by the House that will help keep the American people safe and secure America’s wireless future. We urge the President to sign it quickly.”

Officials said the measure requires the President to develop the Secure Next Generation Mobile Communications Strategy with the heads of the Federal Communications Commission, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the Director of National Intelligence and Secretary of Defense.

The President is then required to develop a separate implementation plan for the strategy for the President and NTIA to implement.

The Act serves as the companion bill to H.R. 2881, the “Secure 5G and Beyond Act of 2019. The House passed that measure in January.
