Siemens Smart Infrastructure this week released the Siveillance Thermal Shield, a product capable of rapid, contactless temperature measurement at building entry points, as a means of adding potential illness tracking to general security.
The package consists of thermal imaging cameras capable of measuring body temperature from up to two meters (approximately 6.5 feet) away. Such cameras are integrated into other corporate security systems. They work by indicating elevated body temperature near the eyes, which can then be confirmed by a medical thermometer. A positive result triggers acoustic and visual alarms, warning staff that additional measures are necessary.
This has the added benefit of guaranteeing the safety of monitoring staff.
“Siveillance Thermal Shield improves the safety of all occupants in buildings or facilities,” Joachim Langenscheid, Solution and Service Portfolio Head Europe at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, said. “We also advise companies on how they can use Thermal Shield for their industry-specific applications to optimize their security systems and procedures, and we support them in the technical implementation.”
The company has touted the system for locations like food factory entrances, hospitals, and border crossings. However, the system measures individuals, not groups.
