Six potential locations for the U.S. Space Command Headquarters have been selected by the Department of the Air Force, on behalf of the Office of Secretary of Defense.
The six finalists include Kirtland Air Force Base (AFB) in New Mexico, Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, Port San Antonio in Texas, and Redstone Army Airfield in Alabama. These six locations were selected from a pool of candidate locations in 24 states based on an analysis by the Department of the Air Force.
Now, officials at the Department of the Air Force will conduct both virtual and on-site visits at each of the six candidate locations to determine which location is best suited to host the U.S. Space Command Headquarters. This assessment will be based on factors related to mission, infrastructure capacity, community support, and costs to the Department of Defense. The Department of the Air Force expects to select the preferred location for U.S. Space Command Headquarters in early 2021.
Until then, Peterson AFB in Colorado will remain the provisional location for U.S. Space Command Headquarters until a permanent location is chosen and facilities are fully prepared to support the mission.
