U.S. Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) commended House of Representatives colleagues for passing a pair of bills Kinzinger introduced that he said are designed to bolster cybersecurity.
The American Cybersecurity Literacy Act (H.R. 4055) requires the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to establish a domestic cybersecurity literacy campaign to increase knowledge and awareness of cybersecurity risks, including best practices for preventing cyberattacks.
Additionally, the Understanding Cybersecurity of Mobile Networks Act (H.R. 2685), also introduced by Kinzinger and Eshoo, requires the NTIA to present Congress with a comprehensive report detailing legacy wireless network cybersecurity, as well as cyberattack vulnerabilities and adversary surveillance.
“Offensive cyber operations conducted by America’s adversaries and cybercriminals are growing more prevalent and more sophisticated by the day,” Kinzinger said. “More must be done to push back, and I’m pleased to see two of my bipartisan cybersecurity bills pass the House with overwhelming support today. These bills will strengthen our cyber posture by educating the public about best practices to keep them more secure and by identifying vulnerabilities in our mobile telecommunications networks and infrastructure.”
Eshoo said she is proud legislation strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity passed the House.
“The Understanding Cybersecurity of Mobile Networks Act gives policymakers a better understanding of the state of the cybersecurity in our wireless networks, which is a matter of national security,” she said. “The American Cybersecurity Literacy Act establishes a cybersecurity literacy campaign to give the people of our country the tools to identify cybersecurity risks and protect themselves from attacks.”
