Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials recently detailed a Port of Lukeville, Ariz., operation resulting in the seizure of 880 pounds of methamphetamine and over 110 pounds of suspected fentanyl.

Port of Lukeville officers referred a 47-year-old Phoenix man for additional inspection of his 2008 Roadmaster RV as he attempted to enter the country. After a positive alert by a CBP narcotics detection canine to a scent it is trained to detect, the search yielded the discovery of 129 packages of drugs hidden within the roof-mounted air conditioning unit.

The seized methamphetamine and fentanyl combination is valued at nearly $4.4 million. The vehicle was seized, and the suspect was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

“Our CBP officers remain focused on their mission of protecting our nation’s borders and keeping dangerous drugs from reaching our communities,” Port Director Peter Bachelier said.
