Threat detection and security screening technology firm Smiths Detection has been selected to supply 47 CTX 9800 DSi explosive detection systems to the Transport Security Administration (TSA).
“We are delighted to announce this new order to supply our CTX 9800 DSi systems, which highlights the vital role Smiths Detection CT technology plays in aviation security,” Smiths Detection President Shan Hood said. “This proven yet innovative technology delivers ever-increasing value to users, which allows us to continually offer the most reliable, advanced, and future-proof solutions needed to protect our skies.”
The CTX 9800 DSi provides explosives detection via a single X-ray source, dual-energy design yielding high-resolution 3D images, in addition to 2D and 3D organic/inorganic material discrimination for hold baggage.
The latest iteration of the CTX 9800 expands the airport operator’s ability to meet security and operational challenges, providing advanced screening capabilities and business management solution efficiencies.
The CTX 9800 has garnered certification from the TSA and Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) while also having garnered European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) approval for meeting European Union Standard 3.0 and 3.1 requirements.
The CTX 9800 equipment is being deployed nationwide in the wake of Smiths Detection’s recent successful competitive bid for the provision of 24 systems, in conjunction with the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded in 2018 for hold baggage screening equipment at domestic airports.
