U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas and Minister of the Interior and Community of Germany Nancy Faeser recently outlined a collaboration addressing security threats facing the countries.
The delegations met in Washington, D.C., to discuss countering the threat of terrorism and the means to finance terrorist networks and transnational criminal organizations and how extremism is fundamental to those joint efforts.
Per DHS, the agency continues to work with Germany on protecting digital ecosystems and critical infrastructure in accordance with the recently released National Cyber Strategy. DHS looks forward to expanding cooperation in targeting illegal drug trafficking and the rise of synthetic opioids, as well as precursor chemicals.
DHS has agreed to partner with German counterparts to counter various threats posed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including deterring cyberattacks and providing humanitarian relief to those fleeing aggression.
Mayorkas looks forward to continuing the partnership and coordination between the Department of Homeland Security and the Ministry of the Interior and Community, DHS noted.
