On Thursday, Smiths Detection, a business within Smiths Group, announced it was accelerating its partnership with AI-based threat detection software provider, SeeTrue.

Smiths Detection said it had successfully integrated and tested SeeTrue’s technology into its advanced CT security checkpoint systems and was ready to implement it pending certification. The move represents a significant step forward in aviation security technology, the companies said. The collaboration is part of Smiths Detection’s Ada Initiative that ‘onboards’ new suppliers to ensure the hardware, software and algorithms from its various suppliers work together according to OA principles.

“Smiths Detection’s partnership with SeeTrue is a key step in advancing the Open Architecture (OA) initiative,” Cymoril Metivier, Global Director Digital Market, Smiths Detection said. “We completed interoperability testing with SeeTrue’s AI threat detection software and our systems, ensuring it aligns with the principles of the Ada Initiative. This is Smiths Detection lead initiative which seeks to speed up OA adoption without compromising performance.”

Officials with the company said SeeTrue’s Prohibited Items Detection Software (APIDS ready) engine had been fully integrated and tested, and was ready for implementation into the HI-SCN 6040 CTiX system. The engine would provide advanced screening for carry-on baggage using Computed Tomography (CT). In combination with Smiths’ automatic explosives detection algorithms, SeeTrue’s prohibited items detection algorithms will provide expanded security and operational efficiency, officials said.

The combined hardware and software scanning system will now undergo European Civil Aviation Conference testing, officials said.

“The high pace, zero downtime requirement of CT checkpoint environments demands tight collaboration between vendors to provide a seamless experience,” Assaf Frenkel, Co-Founder & CEO, SeeTrue, said. “As we scale our business, this collaboration is timely, enabling us to provide customers worldwide with a unique and impactful solution tailored to the growing needs of airport security.”
