The U.S. Air Force recently launched a new initiative to change how projects are funded and fostered across the service.
The Squadron Innovation Fund (SIF) Marketplace is a virtual platform that allows airmen to develop and support innovative ideas that address operational challenges and improve Air Force processes.
In the past, individual squadrons had limited flexibility in how they could use SIF resources. Under the new system, squadron commanders have virtual tokens worth $100 that can be used to fund initiatives. Commanders will also be able to collaborate with other units to pool resources and support larger projects.
“One key benefit of the SIF Marketplace is its ability to break down traditional funding barriers, allowing airmen from different units and MAJCOMs to collaborate and support each other’s initiatives,” said Senior Master Sgt. Brett Kiser, Office of Disruptive Thinking senior enlisted leader. “The new system allows ideas to be shared, tracked, and funded efficiently, ensuring the most promising innovations receive the backing they need to succeed.”
Once entered into the system, an idea is visible to squadron commanders and peers, who can review and provide support.
Department of the Air Force members must create an account on the VISION Joint Innovation System platform to participate.
