U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) field operations officers seized cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.4 million at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry between Texas and Mexico on Thursday.
The seizure occurred on Camino Real International Bridge. A CBP officer referred for secondary inspection a 2013 Freightliner tractor hauling a fuel tanker. Officers conducted the secondary examination using CBP canines and a non-intrusive inspection system and discovered hidden in the tractor 42 packages of alleged cocaine weighing 108.29 pounds.
“Our frontline officers continue to maintain rigorous vigilance and that dedication coupled with non-intrusive inspection system technology yielded this significant cocaine seizure,” Pete Beattie, Eagle Pass Port of Entry port director, said.
The CBP seized the narcotics, tractor and tanker, and Homeland Security Investigations opened a criminal investigation.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the United States’ largest law enforcement organization and the world’s first unified border management agency. It employs more than 65,000 people.
