U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the General Services Administration have formally partnered to complete an infrastructure improvement project at the Los Indios Land Port of Entry (LPOE) in Los Indios, Texas.

The project will increase the capacity to discharge vehicles out of LPOE by adding an additional wide-load lane, booth, and canopy, and will connect the LPOE with Texas’ Border Safety Inspection Facility at Los Indios to expedite the flow of commercial traffic from Mexico to the United States. Once updates are complete, commercial vehicles will be able to drive forward into the state’s inspection facility instead of backing into it.

TxDOT will donate the booths, canopy, concrete pavement, fencing, signage, and striping at the northeast corner of the LPOE. The donation will be made under CBP’s Donations Acceptance Program which allows the private sector and government entities to donate property, money and nonpersonal services for port of entry construction, alterations, operations, and maintenance.

“Through public-private partnerships, our investments in infrastructure improvements at the Los Indios LPOE not only streamline traffic flow and reduce border wait times but also enhance commerce, improve connectivity, and strengthen communities — transforming barriers into bridges of opportunity,” Diane J. Sabatino, CBP acting executive assistant commissioner, said on Feb. 11.
