Raytheon successfully completed a live fire demonstration of its DeepStrike autonomous mobile launcher vehicle at the U.S. Army’s Project Convergence.

Compared to what is currently fielded, the DeepStrike launcher increases the amount of weapons. It can fire missiles of various sizes which provides the Army more mobility and survivability.

A new Raytheon-made missile, developed for the U.S. Army’s Joint Reduced Range Rocket program, was used during the demonstration.

“DeepStrike provides soldiers with a modern platform, autonomous capability and increased magazine depth to meet the Army’s future fires requirements,” Brian Burton, Raytheon vice president of precision fires and maneuver, said. “At Project Convergence, Raytheon demonstrated revolutionary autonomous launcher technology: a self-driving launcher designed to operate seamlessly in all weather conditions, on all terrains, and in harsh battlefield environments.”

Raytheon produced the precision missile and launcher while Oshkosh Defense provided the vehicle platform and electronic systems, Ursa Major manufactured the missile’s rocket motor, and Forterra supplied the self-driving technology.

The team will continue testing over the next year to include both offensive and defensive fires in stressing environments.
