Crossings over the southwest border reached a record low in March, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.
Approximately 7,180 southwest border crossings were recorded in March and there were approximately 230 southwest border apprehensions daily.
The monthly average for the past four years was 155,000 southwest border crossings in March and 5,100 southwest border apprehensions daily.
CBP will finalized its monthly numbers later this month.
“Under the leadership of President (Donald) Trump and (Department of Homeland Security) Secretary (Kristi) Noem, the administration has taken bold, decisive action to restore control at the border. Border Patrol agents are empowered like never before to shut down unlawful entry and protect American lives,” Acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores said. “The message is clear: the border is closed to illegal crossings, and for those still willing to test our resolve, know this — you will be prosecuted, and you will be deported.”
In addition, new border wall contracts were signed in March.
The CBP protects the United States on the ground, in the air, and on the water. The CBP is the largest law enforcement organization in the United States, employing more than 65,000 people, and the world’s first unified border management agency.
