The Coast Guard recently terminated the Logistics Information Management System (CG-LIMS) with program activities ending no later than May 1.
The armed services are facing difficulties attempting to replace its outdated information technology systems. This is because of the transactions required to maintain the fleet of assets and capabilities, and the number and complexity of business-related tasks. The Coast Guard is exploring alternatives to the CG-LIMS, and CG-LIMS personnel will be reassigned.
By cutting the system, the Coast Guard will realign approximately $32.7 million in previously appropriated funding.
“The Coast Guard upholds a longstanding tradition of meticulous stewardship, driven by our talented, innovative and resourceful workforce,” Rear Adm. Mike Campbell, acquisition programs director and program executive officer, said. “The termination of the Logistics Information Management System acquisition program continues that legacy under Force Design 2028. Through Force Design 2028, we are renewing our efforts to maximize efficiencies, identify cost savings and maximize the return on America’s investment in the Coast Guard.”
The Force Design 2028 initiative is an effort to establish a blueprint for change focused on people, organization, contracting and acquisition, and technology.
Cutting CG-LIMS advances the work of the Department of Government Efficiency and is
an early milestone in the Force Design 2028 initiative.
