The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently awarded more than 512 Jewish faith-based organizations nationwide $94.4 million in National Security Supplemental funding. A portion of funding is through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program.

Funding will be used to help organizations increase their defenses against attacks.

“DHS is working to put a stop to the deeply disturbing rise in anti-Semitic attacks across the United States,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “That this money is necessary at all is tragic. Anti-Semitic violence has no place in this country. However, under President (Donald) Trump and Secretary (Kristi) Noem’s leadership, we are going to do everything in our power to make sure that Jewish people in the United States can live free of the threat of violence and terrorism.”

Congress appropriated funding to the Nonprofit Security Grant Program in response to an increase in anti-Semitic threats linked to the Israel Hamas war. All faith-based institutions, including houses of worship, educational facilities, medical facilities, community centers and others, are eligible to apply.

There were 9,354 anti-Semitic incidents in the United States in 2024, according to the Anti-Defamation League, a record and a 344 percent increase over the past five years.
