The Senate FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations bill includes billions in funding for domestic and global infectious disease programs.
Funding includes $1.015 billion for the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority; $6.562 billion for National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, including $565 million for antimicrobial resistance research; $9.150 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); and $47.201 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The bill also includes $23 million for the CDC’s infectious diseases and opioid activities at; $24 million for the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network; $40 million in for the CDC’s Advanced Molecular Detection initiative; $95.162 million for the NIH’s Fogarty International Center; $197 million for the CDC’s Antibiotic Resistance Solutions Initiative; $682 million for the CDC’s Immunizations Program; and $692.843 million for the Center for Global Health, including $128.9 million for global HIV/AIDS funding.
“While IDSA appreciates these investments and important guidance, we are very disappointed that the LHHS funding measure did not provide funding for the Bio-Preparedness Workforce Pilot Program at the Health Resources and Services Administration, a bipartisan effort to close growing ID workforce gaps that endanger patient care, public health and preparedness,” the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) said.
