U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Department of Homeland Security recently awarded 10 construction contracts totaling approximately $4.5 billion to add 230 miles of Smart Wall border security systems and nearly 400 miles of new technology along the southwest border.

The Smart Wall combines advanced detection technology, cameras, lights, patrol roads, steel barriers, and water barriers to stop illegal border crossings.

“For years, Washington talked about border security but failed to deliver. This President changed that,” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said. “The Smart Wall means more miles of barriers, more technology, and more capability for our agents on the ground. This is how you take control of the border.”

Among the awardees, BCCG Joint Venture was awarded $850.4 million for the construction of approximately 42 miles of new primary Smart Wall as part of the El Paso 3 Project. The contract also includes approximately 6 miles of new secondary border wall and the completion of approximately 46 miles of system attributes.

BCCG Joint Venture also was awarded $606.9 million for the construction of approximately 23 miles of new secondary border wall and approximately 66 miles of system attributes in the Tucson and Yuma Sectors.

CBP also awarded more than $550 million in support contracts.
