The U.S. Marine Corps recently awarded Virginia-based BAE Systems, an international defense, security and aerospace company, a $184 million contract for the production of 30 additional amphibious combat vehicles (ACVs).
The contract is a portion of a previously awarded full-rate production Lot 5/6 contract, bringing the total number of ACV-30s ordered to more than 100.
“The ACV has shown time and time again how adaptable it is, capable of handling everything from open ocean to tough inland missions,” Rebecca McGrane, BAE Systems vice president of amphibious programs, said. “With it’s ability to integrate advanced systems like the 30mm cannon, we’re ensuring Marines are ready to meet any challenge, anywhere.”
The ACV platform is capable of transporting troops, mission-essential equipment and other payloads. It incorporates a 30mm turret manufactured by KONGSBERG Aerospace and Defence. The ACV-30 will be manufactured in Pennsylvania while the KONGSBERG turret will be manufactured in South Carolina.
The ACV-Command variant provides multiple workstations for Marines to maintain and manage situational awareness in the battle space, and the ACV-Personnel variant has the ability to carry combat-loaded Marines and crew. The company also is currently under contract for both. It also has built and delivered three ACV-Recovery variant production representative test vehicles.
