Aerospace and defense company Ursa Major announced the launch of its new HAVOC Missile System – a medium-range missile with hypersonic capabilities designed for rapid production and scalability.

The HAVOC system has complete hypersonic capabilities, officials with the company said, which will deliver high-speed, affordable mass at scale to meet modern warfare requirements. Additionally, the system has a core module that can be used for hypersonic targets. The missile’s engineering addressed the need for optionality in survivable, maneuverable hypersonic systems that can be fielded in operationally relevant quantities, the company said.

“Keeping pace with our adversaries requires more than exquisite systems, it requires speed to delivery, affordability, and the ability to build at scale,” Chris Spagnoletti, CEO of Ursa Major, said. “The Ursa Major HAVOC Missile System delivers a highly capable hypersonic weapon designed from the start to be produced rapidly and in quantity, giving the warfighter a credible and adaptable capability.”

The missile system is powered by the company’s Draper tactical liquid rocket engine, making it more cost-effective than airbreathing alternatives, the company said. The system also uses advanced additive manufacturing, innovative design, and modern production processes.

Company officials said the system can be programmed to throttle and restart throughout all phases of flight, giving warfighters capabilities beyond hypersonic boost glide and cruise missile systems, while eliminating the need for thermal protection systems. The system can also operate both endo- and exo-atmospherically which allows for integration with various solid rocket motor boosters to enable launch from a wide range of platforms, the company said.
