Lockheed Martin announced it had won a contract with the U.S. Army to produce Increment 2 of its Precision Strike Missile.

The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract worth up to $1.2 billion will cover the procurement and future orders for the PrSM Increment 2 missiles, as well as the following production and continued development. Lockheed will perform the work at its facilities across the country. The contract comes after a second flight test of the missile that demonstrated its ability to engage moving maritime targets.

“This award marks an important step in delivering PrSM Increment 2 to the warfighter,” said Dave Griser, vice president of Precision Fires Launchers and Missile, Lockheed Martin. “We’re ready to move from flight testing into production and provide the Army with an expanded long-range precision fires capability.”

The PrSM Increment 2 had its first flight test in March and its second flight test in August. Those test flights demonstrated the missile’s ability to obtain critical data during flight, launch from a HIMARS, deploy protective covers and engage the target, officials said. More test flights for the system are scheduled for 2027.

Lockheed said the award builds on the U.S. Department of War’s investment in PrSM, and the company will be expanding capacity to quadruple PrSM production. Officials said the contract moves the PrSM Increment 2 from development and flight testing into production and advances the Army’s long-range precision fire capability, while adding on multimode seekers designed to let the missile engage targets moving on land and in maritime conditions.
