INTERPOL, Barclays partner in Singapore for cyber security

INTERPOL and Barclays have announced that they will enter into a private-public partnership in order to enhance the cyber security of both institutions.

As part of the agreement, Barclays will become the first financial institution to have full-time staff operating at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation’s (IGCI) Cyber Fusion Centre in Singapore. Barclays employees there will work to facilitate more advanced problem solving and enable a much greater level of communication.

“The scale and complexity of today’s cyber-threat landscape means cooperation across all sectors is vital,” Noboru Nakatani, IGCI executive director, said. “INTERPOL’s agreement with Barclays is an important step in our continued efforts to develop a global alliance in combating cyber-threats which are a significant issue for both the public and private sectors.”

The collaboration between the public and private sector will allow for an emphasis on smarter training and preparation against newly developing cyber threats.

“This cooperation is an important step for Barclays, and for the whole industry, to ensure business continuity, maintain security and enable trust with our customers.” Group Chief Information Security Officer at Barclays Troels Oerting said.“Preventing cybercrime and keeping our citizens safe from being victims of crime in cyberspace is a global task and cannot be done without the involvement of INTERPOL,”
