Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) posted at Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge announced on Thursday that they had managed to apprehend approximately $3.8 million worth of alleged methamphetamine found in a vehicle attempting to enter the United States.
The contraband materials were found within the vehicle of a Brazilian citizen who reportedly resides in Michoacán, Mexico.
The arrest originally took place on April 3, when a customs officer flagged the white Nissan Armada SUV driven by the man as requiring a more thorough inspection after the initial primary inspection had been performed.
Once the officers at the bridge inspection port utilized canine enforcement team and all other available tools and resources, they discovered approximately 190.25 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine hidden within the Nissan SUV.
“Our officers truly stepped up to the plate and demonstrated their genuine commitment towards the CBP mission of keeping dangerous drugs from entering our country through the U.S.-Mexico border,” Efrain Solis, Jr., the port director at the Pharr Port of Entry, said. “The narcotics threat is presented on a daily basis and our officers maintain their resolute readiness to face it head-on.”
The CBP OFO immediately seized the narcotics and the vehicle and released the driver into the custody of agents from Homeland Security Investigations.
