Sanchez questions cyber experts on challenges for small businesses

U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) questioned cybersecurity experts on Friday during a hearing conducted by the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies.

The hearing, titled “Oversight of the Cybersecurity Act of 2015,” saw private sector industry members give testimony about the implementation of the act and the ongoing obstacles to cybersecurity information sharing with the federal government or between private sector partners.

Sanchez said that she was concerned that small businesses had faced more challenges than their larger counterparts and suggested that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) pay special attention to the needs of small businesses.

Participants in the hearing included Matthew J. Eggers, senior director of the National Security and Emergency Preparedness at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Robert H. Mayer, vice president of industry and state affairs at the U.S. Telecom Association; Mark Clancy, CEO at Soltra; Mordecai Rosen, general manager of the security business unit at CA Technologies; and Ola Sage, founder and chief executive officer at e-Management.
