Border agents apprehend known sex offender near Eagle Pass Station

U.S. Border Patrol officers assigned to the Eagle Pass Station recently apprehended a known gang member convicted of sexual assault.

The incident occurred on Sept. 5 when Border Patrol agents encountered John Albert Gover, an individual listed on the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list. Gover was convicted in 2009 in Bexar County, Texas, of indecency with a child and sentenced to four years of jail time. He was arrested again in 2014 for failing to register as a sex offender. When Gover failed to make his court date, an arrest warrant was issued.

Gover faces charges related to his missed court date and failing to present himself for inspection at designated crossing points when entering the United States. The latter violation carries a penalty of up to one year in prison. After a processing period, Gover will be turned over to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for his active warrant.

“The men and women of the United States Border Patrol are committed to keeping the American people safe,” Matthew J. Hudak, acting chief patrol agent at the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol, said. “The apprehension of this dangerous criminal is another way we accomplish that objective.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border protection agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between official ports of entry.
