The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) received a grant of $471,549 on Monday from the National Security Agency (NSA) for the 2016 Cyber P3 – Cyber Soldier Development Grant Program.
The program seeks to educate qualified cyber workers with the knowledge, critical mission skills, and military expertise needed to protect the nation from cyber terrorists and international criminal organizations.
“Increasing our cybersecurity resources, training, and capability is a win for the entire San Antonio community,” U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) said. “This type of cooperation between our leading educational institutions, public, and private sectors will strengthen our workforce, create new jobs, and continue to elevate San Antonio as a world leader in cybersecurity.”
Hurd was a key supporter of UTSA’s selection as a founding member of the Cyber P3 Program.
“It’s thrilling to see the top-tier excellence of our cybersecurity faculty and researchers recognized in this opportunity to serve our armed forces and aid in protecting our nation right here in San Antonio, Military City, USA,” Ricardo Romo, president of UTSA, said.
Hurd is a representative of Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, which spans approximately 800 miles of land that includes parts of San Antonio, UTSA and the city of El Paso.
